Entrevista con Elizabeth López Ríos (Festival de cine migrante, Hannover)

Una de las cosas que  más  me sorprende en esta vida migrante es el poder conocer a personas con toda la disposición de compartir sus ideas y conocimientos, tejiendo una red de arte,cultura en la comunidad latina en Alemania. Aquí  tengo el gusto de presentar a Elizabeth, quien desde el año 2024 organiza el Festival de cine Colombiano y migrante en Hannover, Alemania. 

Su éxito la ha llevado a  repetir el festival este año, en esta entrevista nos habla de como nace la idea, sus  proyectos a futuro y de como ver la integración cultural de las personas migrantes.

Elizabeth López Ríos es fisioterapeuta, Colombiana y madre de Emmanuel, un niño talentoso que inspira muchos de sus caminos. 

Desde hace 4 años hace parte activa y voluntaria del Nodo Alemania, donde junto a su compañera de trabajo Diomar ha realizado talleres para difundir el legado de la Comisión de la Verdad (CEV) y ha participado en diversas actividades orientadas a la construcción de paz y memoria. Radicada en Hannover, impulsa con amor proyectos culturales que fortalecen la identidad latinoamericana. Junto a su compañero de equipo Junior León, coordina el Festival Colombiano de Cine Migrante, un espacio de fraternidad y homenaje a Alan Garzón, símbolo del amor por la vida, la naturaleza y la justicia social.

¿Podrías contarnos un poco sobre ti y tu trayectoria hasta llegar a organizar este festival de cine?

●Soy ElizabethLópez, apasionada por la cultura y la memoria. Desde hace 4 años hago parte del Nodo Alemania, una red de la diáspora colombiana que trabaja por la construcción de paz y la difusión del legado de la Comisión de la Verdad. En ese camino nació la alianza con el festival, como un espacio para visibilizar nuestras historias desde el cine.

¿Qué te inspira en tu trabajo y en tus proyectos artísticos?

●Me inspira la fuerza de la comunidad migrante y la capacidad del arte para unir, sanar y recordarnos que compartimos una misma humanidad.

¿Cómo nació la idea de este festival de cine en Hannover?

●Nació del deseo de crear un espacio de memoria y encuentro, donde el cine colombiano y latinoamericano pudiera mostrar la riqueza y complejidad de nuestras historias.

¿Cuál fue tu motivación principal para crearlo?

●Mi mayor motivación fue rendir un homenaje a Alan Garzón, símbolo del amor por la vida, la naturaleza y la justicia social. Este festival es también un tributo a su legado.

En este propósito cuento con el apoyo de mi compañero de equipo Junior León, quien respondió con entusiasmo a la invitación de unirse al homenaje y hoy hace parte de la coordinación del evento.

¿Qué desafíos encontraste al iniciar el proyecto?

●Los retos fueron logísticos y financieros, pero también convencer de que había un público para estas historias. La respuesta de la comunidad confirmó que sí era necesario.

¿Cómo ves la recepción de actividades culturales como esta en Alemania?

●Muy positiva. Hay interés y apertura por conocer otras culturas, y el cine se convierte en un puente para acercar realidades.

¿Qué particularidades encuentras en Hannover para organizar un festival de cine?

●Hannover es diversa y tiene una comunidad migrante activa, además de una sociedad abierta a propuestas culturales distintas. Es un lugar fértil para este tipo de iniciativas.

¿Alguna experiencia especial o anécdota relacionada con el festival?

●Recuerdo personas del público profundamente conmovidas tras una proyección, diciéndonos: “esa historia también es la mía”. Ahí entendí que el festival no es solo cine, es memoria compartida.

¿Qué proyectos futuros tienes relacionados con cine o cultura?

●Seguir fortaleciendo el festival y abrir talleres audiovisuales para jóvenes migrantes, para que ellos mismos narren sus historias.

¿Tienes planes de expandir o repetir el festival en los próximos años?

●Sí. Sueño con que el festival crezca y podamos vivir una semana entera dedicada al cine latinoamericano. Un espacio donde cada país tenga su lugar, donde nuestras culturas se abracen y se fortalezcan a través del arte y la memoria. Que sea una celebración de identidad, diversidad y fraternidad.

¿Cómo ves la integración y participación de personas migrantes en actividades culturales en Alemania?

●Cada vez hay más apertura. La cultura nos permite encontrarnos desde lo humano y construir puentes de integración reales.

¿Qué importancia tiene el cine para visibilizar historias de migración y diversidad?

●El cine es una ventana poderosa: para los migrantes es reconocimiento, y para los demás, una invitación a la empatía.

¿Qué mensaje darías a quienes se interesen en participar en el festival?

●Les diría que este festival es una invitación a volver a mirarnos, a reconocernos. Es una semilla de reencuentro con nuestro territorio, con nuestras raíces y con nuestro ser latinoamericano.

Aquí la cultura se convierte en abrazo, el cine en memoria viva, y la música y el arte en un puente hacia nuestra hermandad.

Es un espacio para sentirnos en casa, para sanar nostalgias y para celebrar lo que somos: una comunidad diversa, fuerte y unida por el amor a la vida y a nuestra identidad compartida.

Si pudieras resumir en una palabra la esencia de este festival, ¿cuál sería?

●Fraternidad.

Could you tell us a bit about yourself and your journey leading up to organizing this film festival?

●I’m Elizabeth López, passionate about culture and memory. For the past four years, I’ve been part of Nodo Alemania, a network of the Colombian diaspora that works for peacebuilding and the dissemination of the legacy of the Truth Commission. Along that path, the alliance with the festival was born, as a space to make our stories visible through cinema.

What inspires you in your work and artistic projects?

●I’m inspired by the strength of the migrant community and the power of art to unite, heal, and remind us that we share a common humanity.

How did the idea for this film festival in Hanover come about?

●It was born from the desire to create a space for memory and encounter, where Colombian and Latin American cinema could showcase the richness and complexity of our stories.

What was your main motivation for creating it?

●My greatest motivation was to pay tribute to Alan Garzón, a symbol of love for life, nature, and social justice. This festival is also a homage to his legacy. In this endeavor, I have the support of my teammate Junior León, who enthusiastically responded to the invitation to join the tribute and today is part of the festival’s coordination team.

What challenges did you face at the beginning of the project?

●The challenges were logistical and financial, but also convincing others that there was an audience for these stories. The community’s response confirmed that it was indeed necessary.

How do you see the reception of cultural activities like this in Germany?

●Very positive. There is genuine interest and openness to learning about other cultures, and cinema becomes a bridge to bring realities closer together.

What particularities do you find in Hanover for organizing a film festival?

●Hanover is diverse and has an active migrant community, in addition to being a society open to different cultural initiatives. It’s a fertile place for this kind of project.

Any special experience or anecdote related to the festival?

●I remember people in the audience deeply moved after a screening, telling us: “That story is also mine.” At that moment, I understood that the festival is not just about cinema—it’s shared memory.

What future projects do you have related to film or culture?

●To continue strengthening the festival and to open audiovisual workshops for young migrants, so that they themselves can tell their stories.

Do you have plans to expand or repeat the festival in the coming years?

●Yes. I dream of the festival growing into a full week dedicated to Latin American cinema. A space where each country has its place, where our cultures embrace and are strengthened through art and memory. A true celebration of identity, diversity, and fraternity.

How do you see the integration and participation of migrants in cultural activities in Germany?

●There is more and more openness. Culture allows us to meet from a human perspective and to build real bridges of integration.

What importance does cinema have in making migration and diversity stories visible?

●Cinema is a powerful window: for migrants, it means recognition; for others, it is an invitation to empathy.

What message would you give to those interested in participating in the festival?

●I would say that this festival is an invitation to look at ourselves again, to recognize each other. It is a seed of reconnection with our territory, with our roots, and with our Latin American being. Here, culture becomes an embrace, cinema becomes living memory, and music and art become bridges toward our shared brotherhood. It is a space to feel at home, to heal nostalgia, and to celebrate who we are: a diverse community, strong and united by our love for life and our shared identity.

If you could summarize the essence of this festival in one word, what would it be?

●Fraternity.
