CeBIT on the social web

Facebook, Twitter and the rest – an audience in the millions actively takes part in CeBIT-related topics on the Internet.

Facebook, Twitter, blogs: An audience in the millions discusses CeBIT online

"Anyone who is in Hannover becomes a worldwide topic in the Internet community. An audience in the millions participated actively on the Internet on topics related to CeBIT. Twitter, Facebook and blogs in particular were used intensively. But the online reporting of conventional media on the high-tech event of the year was an occasion for intensive discussions and commentary within the Internet community."

Here the lead topic "Shareconomy" struck a chord with users. In addition, the community exchanged information on trends such as Big Data, the cloud, mobility, social business and the Internet of Things.

CeBIT as pioneer of digital communication

Whether blog, website, live stream, media center or an exhibitor database reflecting the "Who’s Who" of the digital economy: Never before has CeBIT had the interactive, all-channel presence that it has today. For example, it reported on trends and new products from the sector all year long at blog.cebit.de - and naturally covered CeBIT itself comprehensively.

The website cebit.com is the starting point for visitors, exhibitors and journalists for the mega event of the ICT sector. All year long, it makes available all the important information and comprehensive services for all the players in the sector in an updated form.

"True to the hot 'shareconomy' topic, users develop exciting ideas relating to CeBIT and its exhibitors and products using crowd-sourcing on the specially developed Open Innovation Platform."

The new CeBIT app gives you all the important information and services, even when you are on the go, at any time. New this year were the Buddyfinder and the mobile CeBIT ticket, which could be scanned quickly and easily at the entrance terminal. That means CeBIT guests reached the fairgrounds even more quickly. Exhibitors used the "app in app" format as a comprehensive advertising option for their involvement in the fair.

The growth of online activities and demand on the web is unabated. In all, more than 1 million users saw these services just during CeBIT week.

Partner Country Great Britain UK named as Partner Country for BITKOM and CeBIT

The German Federal Association for Information Technology, Telecommunications and New Media (BITKOM) and CeBIT, the No. 1 tradeshow for the digital industries, have named the United Kingdom as their official Partner Country for 2014.

On 11th September, Simon McDonald, British Ambassador in Berlin, Nick Baird, CEO at UKTI and Marius Felzmann, Senior Vice President CeBIT at Deutsche Messe signed the MoU of CeBIT's Partnercountry UK 2014.

The partnership between the IT industries of both countries at CeBIT has been made possible by two cooperation agreements between Deutsche Messe and UKTI and the German and British IT industry associations BITKOM and Intellect.
"The partnership between these two industrial nations is testimony to Europe's strength. As well as being home to their fair share of global IT players, the UK and Germany each have a very healthy IT startup scene. The closer cooperation envisaged by the Partner Country concept harbors major commercial potential for both countries," commented Oliver Frese, the Deutsche Messe Managing Board member in charge of CeBIT.
This view was echoed by BITKOM President Dieter Kempf: "The UK is the second-largest ICT market in Europe after Germany. The networking and dialogue opportunities at next year's CeBIT will be of enormous benefit to exhibitors. For small and medium businesses in particular, the fair is an affordable, highly effective means of forging key international contacts."

The German-British IT Summit on 10 March, the opening day of CeBIT, will be attended by high-ranking government leaders from both countries.

UK ICT market in growth mode

Despite a difficult economic climate, Britain’s IT and telecommunications sector has enjoyed moderate but steady growth in revenues over the past few years. EITO (European Information Technology Observatory) is predicting the sector to grow its revenues by 2 percent to around 128 billion euros in 2013 on the back of growing demand for tablet computers and smartphones and increased investment in software and mobile infrastructure.

“Integrated Industry – NEXT STEPS” announced as lead theme for HANNOVER MESSE 2014

Hannover, Germany. The lead theme and official motto for HANNOVER MESSE 2014 has been chosen: “Integrated Industry – NEXT STEPS.” The choice reflects the fair’s continued focus on integration as a challenge of pivotal importance for the future of industry and maps out the next steps along the road to tomorrow’s intelligent, self-organizing factories. It also underscores HANNOVER MESSE’s status as the world’s leading trade fair for industrial technology.

“To stay competitive, industrial companies need to make their production processes as resource-efficient as possible. They need to be able to respond swiftly to changes in the market, while at the same time satisfying the growing demand for product individualization and customization,” said Dr. Jochen Köckler, Member of the Managing Board at Deutsche Messe – the organizers behind HANNOVER MESSE. “The answer to these challenges has a name: Integrated Industry – a paradigm in which production processes are geared for maximum flexibility. Many technologies for implementing this paradigm have been developed over recent years. The next steps are about integrating these technologies into industrial production in such a way that they form a synchronized, harmonized and fully networked whole. And this is precisely the focus of HANNOVER MESSE 2014, namely the steps industry needs to take in order to get from its smart-factory vision to a real-life, integrated Industry 4.0 factory.”

Making the transition from smart-factory vision to Industry 4.0 reality requires a great deal of information sharing, discussion and coordination. One of the main challenges here is standardization – ensuring software compatibility across all the components, machines and factories that are to be networked with each other. “At the moment, each company’s IT system speaks its own separate language. But now, in order to achieve integration, we need industry-wide agreement on a common ‘international language of production,’” said Köckler. “Under the banner of ‘Integrated Industry – NEXT STEPS,” HANNOVER MESSE 2014 will present a number of pioneering approaches and initiatives in this area. The world’s leading trade fair for industrial technology is the ideal forum for this, given that it integrates the areas of automation, energy, industrial sourcing and R&D.”

The aim of Integrated Industry is to achieve adaptable production systems that can respond immediately to accommodate fluctuations in global demand and highly specific customer requirements. These are intelligent systems in which all components – from workpieces to machines to transport systems – are connected to each other via a network and are able to communicate with each other autonomously. The workpieces are not passed from station to station along a rigidly configured production line. Instead, they autonomously activate the necessary modular processing centers and independently initiate each required processing step. This enables maximum flexibility and efficiency in industrial production runs of all sizes – including single-lot production runs.

“Flexibility and efficiency – these are the keys to continued survival in a highly competitive international market. Therefore, the task now is to take the next steps – and, more important, the right steps – to ensure that industry realizes its vision of smart, flexible factories. HANNOVER MESSE will play a key role in this with its 2014 lead theme of ‘Integrated Industry – NEXT STEPS,’” said Köckler.

About a quarter of all HANNOVER MESSE exhibitors are involved in some way or other in energy generation, transmission, distribution or storage. For these exhibitors, “Integrated Industry – NEXT STEPS” signals the way forward in the ongoing process of energy system transformation. In this process, the main next steps are to upgrade and expand energy transmission and data networks and to find viable ways of replacing the current energy system, which is based on mere dozens of central power stations, with a decentralized system comprising hundreds of thousands of small natural-gas, solar, wind and biomass-powered generation units. Köckler: “The energy of the future is not just green; it is smart as well. In the future, the smart grids that carry energy and the end devices that consume it will communicate with each other, unlocking colossal potential for energy savings. Making this vision a reality requires collaboration and coordination across an incredibly diverse range of industries. With integration at its very heart, HANNOVER MESSE is the ideal platform for marshalling future-defining technologies and concrete solutions in the interests of promoting and facilitating the transformation from an outmoded, inflexible energy system to a modern, intelligent energy network.”

Gates soon to open on DOMOTEX Middle East – prime showcase for the parquet and floor coverings industry

Istanbul. Turkey is not only one of Europe’s top producers of MDF, but also one of its biggest buyer’s markets for parquet flooring. Just as in other countries around the world, Turkish consumer demand for laminate and multilayer parquet flooring has been rising steadily over the past several years, with no end in sight. According to reports published by The Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), Turkey’s parquet imports rose steeply last year, from as much as approx. 700,000 square meters in 2011.
DOMOTEX Middle East, which next runs from 7 to 10 November this year at the Istanbul Expo Center, is an important marketplace for anyone and everyone with a professional interest in carpets or parquet flooring.
DOMOTEX Middle East is organized by Hannover Fairs Turkey Fuarcılık A. Ş. Its General Manger, Alexander Kühnel, is confident Turkey’s economic growth augurs well for DOMOTEX Middle East. “The Turkish economy grew stronger than expected in the first half of 2013. The country’s GDP was up 3.7 percent compared with the same time last year, due in considerable measure to government spending, which increased 55 percent. Against this background, a visit to DOMOTEX Middle East is an absolute must for businesses in the carpet and flooring industry who want to benefit from Turkey’s economic upswing. The fair has the added benefit that it opens the door to new business in the Middle East. Another noteworthy point: The R+T fair to be held concurrently with DOMOTEX Middle East for the first time this year will generate valuable synergies for visitors and exhibitors alike.”
DOMOTEX Middle East is unique in that it enables a great many international flooring companies to showcase their products to buyers from the Middle East and Turkey. It is the only trade fair in the entire region to offer this kind of scope. DOMOTEX Middle East runs concurrently with R+T Turkey, which is staged at the Istanbul Fair Center. The R+T show complements the DOMOTEX offering with an array of innovations in roller shutters, windows, doors, gates, window shutters, grilles, fences, tents and umbrellas, awnings and sun protection systems.
In addition to stand-alone showcases by international market leaders, DOMOTEX Middle East will feature national pavilions from China, India, Iran, Turkey and Germany. The show will also be international in terms of its visitors, among whom will be many high-ranking delegates from enterprises, industry associations and institutions from a whole range of countries, including Lebanon, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Yemen, Oman, Iran and Iraq. Among the confirmed visitors are senior procurement executives and project managers in charge of major construction projects, as well as leading architects and interior designers.
The Turkish government is planning further, large-scale infrastructure projects. These include the light rail project in Sakarya (on the Black Sea Coast), a logistics center in the Havza district, various power station projects, and a third airport in Istanbul. The projects will continue to provide stimulus for the Turkish economy and offer major business opportunities for European exporters.

Strong exhibitor lineup taking shape for the Partner Country Netherlands showcase at HANNOVER MESSE 2014

Hannover, Germany. “Global Challenges, Smart Solutions” is the Netherland’s chosen motto for its Partner Country showcase at HANNOVER MESSE 2014 this coming April. The motto was announced by the Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, Lilianne Ploumen, during today’s official signing of the Partner Country agreement in The Hague.

“Germany stands for quality backed by a solid, top-performing industrial base; and the Netherlands stand for innovation powered by smart solutions to technical challenges. At HANNOVER MESSE, our two nations are combining their strengths in order to enhance their international competiveness,” Ms. Ploumen said.

Looking ahead to April next year, the early signs are that the Netherlands will have a big presence at HANNOVER MESSE. “There has been quite a run on registrations for HANNOVER MESSE 2014 by Dutch companies, said Dr. Jochen Köckler, a member of the Managing Board of Deutsche Messe, the organizer of HANNOVER MESSE. “It’s still about another six months until the fair opens, but we are already noticing a marked increase in booked exhibition space. All up, we are expecting to lease twice the normal amount of display space to Dutch exhibitors. The number of Dutch exhibitors is also likely to be up significantly.”

The most recent directly comparable event is HANNOVER MESSE 2012, which saw 80 Dutch companies exhibiting on 2,200 square meters (about 23,680 sq. ft.) of display space.

Köckler: “The Netherlands’ mechanical engineering sector is enjoying steady growth and is made up predominantly of highly specialized small and medium enterprises. The country also has an extremely competitive industrial subcontracting sector which supplies components, modules and made-to-order solutions to customers all around the world. Exhibitors and visitors seeking cooperative ventures with Dutch companies in these sectors will be extremely well positioned to do so at HANNOVER MESSE.”

The motto “Global Challenges, Smart Solutions” signals that the Netherlands will be using the upcoming HANNOVER MESSE to showcase pioneering solutions to the industrial challenges of the future. With a central Partner County pavilion in Hall 3 and a suite of national pavilions dotted around the exhibition venue, the Netherlands will have a strong presence in all of HANNOVER MESSE’s main theme areas.

Deutsche Messe opens new office in Washington, D.C.

Hannover/Washington, D.C. Deutsche Messe AG and its U.S. subsidiary, Hannover Fairs USA, Inc., are opening a new office on October 1 in Washington, D.C., that will focus on promoting awareness in the U.S. of HANNOVER MESSE, the world’s leading industrial trade fair. Marco Siebert, Director of International Relations at Deutsche Messe, will manage the new office. The 41-year old Siebert has been responsible for cooperative ventures with U.S. partners for several years while working from Hannover, Germany.

“As the world’s biggest economy, the United States plays a key role not just for German industry, but for global industry as a whole,” said Dr. Jochen Köckler, Member of the Managing Board at Deutsche Messe. “Our new office in Washington, D.C., enables us to more vigorously promote the participation of American companies and associations in our trade fairs,” he added. Köckler said Deutsche Messe expects support from strategic partners such as the U.S. Department of Commerce, the U.S. Commercial Service and various chambers of commerce and associations at federal and state levels.

American and EU plans to ratify a free trade agreement between both economies by 2015 are another reason for the new office. “We strongly support such an agreement, which is 100% in line with our work at Deutsche Messe to encourage enterprises to tap new markets,” said Köckler.

A Transatlantic free trade agreement would make it easier for companies from both sides to gain entry to each other’s markets. The EU Commission has estimated that an agreement of this type could boost economic performance in Europe by as much as 0.5% and in the United States by 0.4%. An ifo study commissioned by the German Ministry of the Economy and published in February found that a far-reaching trade agreement between the EU and the U.S. would result in an increase in German exports to the U.S., above all on the part of small and medium-sized enterprises.

Dr. Thomas Zielke, Representative of German Industry and Trade (the Washington, D.C. liaison office of the BDI and DIHK trade associations), underscored his support for Deutsche Messe’s U.S.-based activities. “HANNOVER MESSE is a globally unique driver of industrial investments,” he said. “By devoting special attention to the U.S. market, Deutsche Messe is actively promoting the growth of exports between Germany and the U.S.”
